A little history:
Once a small rural community, under the old regime mining, industrialization and urbanization have changed the look of Sallaumines. The abandonment of coal mining, closure of wells has left traces in the heavy mining towns. Today Sallaumines is a business park which houses companies (Durisostti) on tile of the former pits 5 and 13, a housing and cities who are renovating, an image that changes gradually as equips the city.
Proud of its past, the city is nonetheless looking to the future!

Sallau is an example of a village street became large mining town with the addition of "mines" in its name in 1897.

Cited razed in April 1917, Sallaumines also paid a heavy price for the mine that sat prosperity. The war memorial on the Town Hall Square, honors the victims of the disaster of March 10, 1906.

Sallaumines also has a historical curiosity: a marker of the old royal road to 1753. The finely carved monolith, is still visible against the cemetery.
