Mairie, écoles et église de Vimy

62580 VIMY

Particularly marked by the battles of the First World War, Vimy is in ruins at the end of the conflict. The impressive complex of city schools rebuilt after the war used to assert the role of municipal power. The City Hall Art Deco style borrows the vocabulary of seaside architecture while schools are influenced by regional style. The Church of St. Martin, located about 700m further down the main street, is a neo-Gothic style. Reinforced concrete is widely used as it is the case for many buildings erected in the late 1920s.
